babes in the Woods detail
I received this wonderful note from Carol Dale after she saw my piece "Babes in the Woods", and I asked her if I could share her words with you all and she graciously agreed.

Dear Rosalyn,

I am back in chilly Wisconsin. I am so thankful for the opportunity to finally meet you in person and to see your current work in progress. And now that I'm home again I wanted to spend a minute to reflect on your piece "Babes in the Woods."

I have truly never seen a work that is us. Us as women, as a group, as friends, as relationships . . . but when I first saw "Babes", I felt a deep sigh of understanding for all of those things.

We move in circles and yet seldom are we the center of our universe. Our families, our careers, our talents and abilities keep us always a little off center, yet in our search for ourselves we are drawn into the center. We focus our energies in a constant search for beauty that we long to wrap around ourselves like a protective blanket. Or maybe the center of the circle is something like an oasis from the busyness that surrounds us.

The "Babes" are individuals who delight in sharing. They appreciate each other's gifts and don't hesitate to share them with one another. There is a confidence that their offerings will be accepted regardless of the medium - for one beads, one a tapestry etc. They are barefoot comfortable with each other. I appreciate the 'Babe" who has turned away from the others. I seem to always be the one who has to leave "my ladies" first!

Perhaps one of the most significant things we can offer a friend is the permission to come and go as she needs to. She appreciates the beauty of the flowers and participates by giving her bare feet a taste of walking through the petals. Maybe she is not leaving at all, but has suddenly seen something that calls her to a closer look. Her friends know she will be back. They are not threatened at her departure and she is comfortable enough to turn aside from the security of the group to investigate something that has caught her eye.

"Babes in the Woods" makes me smile.

Thank you so much for such a gift!

Hope to see you again,

Carol
