November 2006 was a very full month . . . full of sadness, shock, excitement, happiness and surprise . . .
My Mother passed away on November 1st, just one month short of her 91st birthday. She enjoyed a long full life. I’m blessed to have inherited my stitching pleasure from her and my Grandmother. These thoughts of stitching, inheritance and legacy have been much in my thoughts.
Two weeks later, at around noon of the day of my Exhibit opening, I had a car accident. My car was hit on the driver’s door and I’m very lucky to be here and telling this story.
I spent the rest of that day in emergency at a hospital, being checked for hip and rib sprains, given pain mediation and then released at 6pm as the Exhibit was opening!!
There wasn’t time to go home to change into my chosen outfit or to attempt to appear glamorous. As my daughter Debbie drove me to the Gallery, I combed my hair with my fingers, applied Debbie’s mascara without a light or mirror, found my lipstick and limped into the Gallery to be greeted by the group of waiting friends . . .
The surprise was that no one seemed to notice that I was wearing what I had been wearing all day. The other surprise to me was that I didn’t even care about how I looked . . . I was just so happy to be at my own Exhibit. I had spent so much of the day thinking “What if . . . ”
Thanks to the kindness of family and friends and the exceptional care by Lou, I’m healing very well, both physically and emotionally.
The Exhibit was amazing! It was so beautifully displayed by Sonja and Leon at The Contemporary Gallery.
Needlepoint Art was eagerly enjoyed and accepted as an Art form. Many people enquired about the work, the technique, how long did it take to create and what are the prices. I hadn’t planned to sell anything, just to share what I do.
Why not sell Needlepoint Art? Because we can’t sell the piece for the true value? I can tell you that there is great interest in what we create. However, I do realize that most people don't know of or have an appreciation of the many many hours spent, and the value of the materials that we use in our art. I did put prices on certain pieces and I priced them as I felt they were worth.
I would love to find new homes for some of my pieces as I’ve run out of wall space!
My focus remains to teach and share . . . I'm very grateful to all of you for supporting stitchamaze.com. Your encouragement and feedback have allowed me to continue to offer you the very best needlepoint inspiration.
You are also encouraging me to push my limits and then share the results. We are learning and creating together.
My very best wishes
Rosalyn
