Maureen W. Clifton
It is my great pleasure to introduce you to Maureen W. Clifton from Westerville OH. I was so interested when I first saw Maureen's pieces because she and I share the same passion for the meditative qualities of a mandala. Maureen creates the most exquisite range of pieces that she calls "Mandalla Décor". Enjoy her exciting and innovative exhibit! Rosalyn
Maureen writes:
"My business is called "Akashic Auras ~ by Maureen" and I am so pleased to show you just a few examples of one aspect that I call my Mandalla Décor! With no formal design, color or stitching training, I create these pieces from 'within'. A Sanskrit meaning for mandala is a 'journey to the center of one's consciousness'.
My mandallas are intuitive, meaningful and purposeful. Each is totally unique. I stitch the 'Mysteries of the Universe' into them as they take a life of their own to provide calming energy and positive vibrations for their eventual owner.
Through my access to The Akashic Records, my purpose is to teach and share as many insights and lessons as I can, with those who are on the path towards Enlightenment."

"Peace Rose Cross"©
approximately 6" x 8",
set into a custom painted frame.

"Peace Rose Cross that can inspire one’s actions for life, and one can ponder upon the ideals of Peace on Earth with compassion for all living things. I've incorporated the delicate Peace Dove that is secured with a glass, pearl and golden beaded harness. There are turquoise ceramic beads, with 3 Pink Fresh Water Pearls that can be thought of as the Trinity of Peace: hope, charity (love) and compassion. In the very center is a white Fresh Water Pearl of infinite wisdom and love from Source as The Light expands outward through this piece.
The stitched panel is attached to the background with more radiating light by two strands of thread at each corner. White and gold are the colors of purity of the Soul and Spirit and of one’s thoughts and actions. Creating peace within can come from seeking higher goals by all that one does and how one responds to all of life’s challenges, changes and events."

Overall size when framed: 19" x 23"
"Last Fall I began to make this piece for a lovely lady doctor friend of mine as a gift for her office. I've worked on it steadily for the last 6 months. It will be in a frame, though the mat needed all the extras, so I had fun in the scrap-booking section. I felt it would be great for the children to look at and see all the little items there . . .
There are many added beads, charms and appliqués. It was fun to make, though at times, hard on my hands. I went on an adventure quest to find the little goodies for it. I like giving things like this to people who I know will appreciate it."
"Spiritual Breastplate of 'Light' and Strength"©
Approximately 9" x 11", set into a custom painted frame.

"Spiritual Breastplate of ‘Light’ & Strength for Soul-Connection to God© is a geometric design with wheels, hearts and roses. It creates a path with a bold outline in maroon that forms the breastplate shape, which can be seen as one’s Soul and Spirit’s protection.
Stitching on 14 gauge canvas I used multiple strands of pearl cotton and metallic thread, I also created a radiating background area representing God and Aura Light. I wanted this piece to have balance and symmetry."
"Elements Locked Into the Heart of Soul"©
Approximately 9" square in a custom painted wooden frame.
See a detail of the stitched area
"The center area is stiched on 10 gauge mesh using cotton, pearl cotton, silky rayon and metallic. I used bold primary colors for the Elements - Yellow for Earth, Red for Fire, White for Air and Blue for Water. A cross creates a compass and divides each Element segment in which there are floral motifs that point to its center which has strong, grounding colors of terra firma, implying strength of character and love for life and adventure. Many colorful hearts within its design are for love.
A variety of items went into creating the 'scenes' within this Mandalla Décor, each relating to our planet Earth’s seasons and to human desires, attributes and qualities."
'Native American Rose Cross'
'Their Ways of Life and Spirit'
Double sided piece - 12" x 22"
"Side 1: Native American Rose Cross©, includes objects of harvest and food preparation with storage baskets, the Sun, red and yellows maize (corn) and grains with a 2-tone red Desert Rose in its center. It is 10 gauge canvas and I've used cotton, pearl cotton and metallic threads.
Side 2: Their Way of Life & Spirit© depicts a Native American Village. Located at the top of a cliff, above a river, there is a path to the river. Details that peak the imagination about how they lived includes tee-pee, corn fields with water, and an animal hide being stretched to a Sacred Circle for ceremonial celebrations to commune with The Great Spirit.
Two special items, a Native American Arrowhead (a real one) given to me by friends who found it on the Uncompahgre River Plateau near Grand Junction, Colorado in the 1990's, and a Pottery Shard that was found near my Grandfather’s Mining Claim near Queen Creek, Arizona by my Father in the 1940's – are included in this piece.
Attached to the hoop is a Spirit Stick. It is embellished with leather strips, silver and turquoise beads and feathers. Other beads include: shells hearts, silver, specialty, pony beads and leather strips. Other silver charms are: an oval shield, squash blossoms, a heart and feather charms."
"Key to my Dreams"©
Stitched area 5" x 7", set into custom painted frame.

"At the center of the inner diamond shape is a 2-colored blue cross that represents one’s higher truths. The key in the center is an antique. This design provides ideal enlightened colors of all the Chakras in a centered fashion with all the Aura Light colors that appear to evolve and illuminate one’s Soul. Throughout the design is a double X with 2 gold metallic and 2 white metallic lines. These depict 'The Light of Source' that exists within all Souls, meaning throughout one’s entire being: Body-Mind-Spirit-Soul.
This design expands ever outwardly and specific darker colors appear in the outer edges of the Aura to show that while living, remaining grounded assists one in seeking a higher purpose while on life’s grand path. The colors are bold, like life’s challenges often are – yet it has soft colors mixed between its layers, just as life has its softer side.
Look closely and see many different colored hearts in this piece . . . it is filled with eternal love."
"The Gardens of Love for Life"©
Stitched area 10" x 8", set into ivory mat and gold frame.

"The gardens are full of flowers in many colors with 3 larger roses. There are ponds, trellises and paths, typical of English or many European gardens of centuries past and present. As the eye walks through this garden, just as in life, many new items are seen upon each walk. I used metallic thread as accents for a goblet and for shimmery lights on the night time rose trellis on the right, that comes from a colorful vase. The trellises have layers of stitching over and under to create dimension.
I wanted to depict Night (Moon) and Day (Sun) and weather – clouds that bring the rain, as that is how our gardens grow. The Sun shines over a vineyard with a cluster of grapes at the top, representing the Earth’s bounty and I stitched a road with flowers that go to the vineyard at the bottom left - the road of life. The detailed, symmetrical garden in the center is stitched on a second 10 guage canvas, overlaid onto the larger one.
I used DMC's cotton, pearl cotton and metallic threads. My intention was to create balance, as this is what humans love to create during their lives. Having a garden increases one’s Body-Mind-Soul-Spirit-God-connection and provides peace, love and harmony."
"I would love to encourage you all to try out creating your own pieces that have special meaning for you. Your stitching skills are amazing . . . so why not make a piece for someone close to you. Create a work that shares something you feel, think or have experienced together. Write the meanings you intend and stitch the info onto the back of the gift."
"I hope you enjoyed my exhibit here. All of my pieces are for sale and you can see more about ordering and costs on my website, Akashic Auras.
My newest book "Insights Into the Soul" - A Portrait of the Human Soul's Path, is now available. See more about my "Mandalla Décor".
