Carolina Lily

"Carolina Lily"

You will find this beautiful project in the Jan-Feb 2004 edition of "Needlepoint Now" magazine. As usual, Tony presents you with many options to suit your preferences.

Tony Minieri is an extraordinary needlework designer and teacher who writes a continuing feature called "Adventures in Embellishment" in every issue of Needlepoint Now. Not only is Tony a talented designer and a popular teacher who travels all over the Unites States to teach classes, but he is also an expert at interpreting the painted canvas.

Tony was formally educated at the Stevens Institute of Technology and is affiliated with ANG, NETA, EGA and NAN. His needlework education includes the National Seminar, Callaway School of Needlearts, ANG and EGA workshops and Level 1 Certification (NAN). He has taught at Callaway for several years, TNNA, ANG and EGA chapters, Canadian National (1995) and at local shops. His accomplishments include commercial designs for Lois Caron and the production of stitch and thread guides for Sunrunner and Renaissance Designs.

Victorian Nosegay

"Victorian Nosegay"

Design Size: 6" X 8" 24ct. canvas

A beautiful boquet of violets, Quaker Ladies and Tic-Trefoils clustered together over a white lace doily in a silver and pewter Tussie-Mussie make this glorious "Victorian Nosegay". A great selection of stitches are used in the piece including Rhodes, Jessicas, Fleur-de-lis Crescents, Cast on Buliions and more. Pullled Work and Needlelace are two techniques taught in this piece.

Tony writes:

"Aren't we a lucky group of people to have found such an all-consuming passion as fine art needlework. We have been given the opportunity to create beautiful pieces of artwork using thread as our medium and leave a wonderful legacy of our time on earth. I have the added privilege of being a national teacher who gets to touch on many stitcher's lives and become a part of their stitching education. I take my job very seriously but hope not so serious that my students aren't having fun while they learn.

A big thank you to Rosalyn for this wonderful website."

Promenade on the Hudson

"Promenade on the Hudson"

This piece depicts a magnificent Edwardian Lady coiffed in Gibson Girl style and dressed in elegant tones of white and cream accented with auburn and olive. This is the first in a series of period dress masterpieces by Tony. The ground fabric for the piece is 24 count congress cloth with the finely shaded face worked on silk gauze. The dress and background are stitched predominantly in silks with touches of lace, metallic, charms, ribbons, and feathers.

Patterns of the Orient Patterns of the Orient

This example was stitched by Joan Crowdis

Two versions of "Patterns of the Orient"

Patterns within this design are from fabrics of China, Japan and Korea and are worked with silk and with gold metals and metallics. “Patterns of the Orient” is stitched on 24ct. canvas, using an unbelievable selection of silk threads and stitched in some wonderful composite stitches including Bargello, flat chevron, vertical couching, overlapping lattice, cashmere, Gobelin and elongated Hungarian. You'll love stitching this phenomenal piece.

Stars for a New Millenium

"Stars for a New Millenium" - Booklet

Stars for a New Millennium is a study in color, texture, stitch and thread. It was originally designed after a year of color, stitch and thread notebook classes at The Edwardian Needle. Each square in this pattern is based on a traditional star quilt pattern and is named after a movie star from Hollywood's Golden Age.

The instruction booklet is 96 pages, with each of the 12 squares (and the borders and corners) completely charted for you, including a full-color master chart for each square. The individual stitches are thoroughly charted and explained.

Also - Pam Miller of The Edwardian Needle has a supply of Tony’s chapter for Amy Bunger’s Cookbook of Stitches. Tony has autographed the copies of his "Tied Stitches" chapter. Contact Pam for your copy!
