I am so happy to welcome Bette Hicks to the Guest Gallery.

Bette writes: "My inspiration for Ralph and Oscar was living on Longboat Key and being fascinated by these lovely birds - I just had to put them on canvas and stitch them.
Both are on 18 mesh French Blue canvas."

"Underwater Fantasy" was the result of a 4 day class which included 1 day of marbeling the 22 mesh congress cloth, 1 day of designing, 1 day ofstitching and a day of appliqueing and adding the embellishments. It was an exciting class."

"I started to learn needlepoint on my own, then in 1980 I discovered Elsa Williams School of Needleart in West Townsend, MA. After attending classes there I was hooked and canvaswork became a consuming passion for me and still continues to be my favorite pastime.

I studied for 2 years with the National Academy of Needleart and have traveled to England and Italy to take classes. I attend numerous seminars and do local teaching for my ANG and EGA chapters."

Louis XIV chairs in the Great Room of the Cą d'Zan, Sarasota, Florida

The Great Room of the Ca' d'Zan
The two Louis XIV chairs in the Great Room of the Cą d'Zan were completely re-stitched in needlepoint by members of the Sun Stitchers Chapter of ANG and the Sarasota Chapter of EGA. Marguerite Crosby, Jennifer Taylor and Bette Hicks created a graph from the original chair canvases for the stitchers to work from.

Working along with the stitchers, Marguerite and Bette stitched the petit point birds and squirrels on the chair backs.

The entire project was completed in four years.
