Isabelle Aubry
Isabelle Aubry of Artis®, lives and works in Marrakesh, Morocco. Her amazing contemporary canvas embroideries are inspired by the exquisite moroccan mosaïcs that surround her life, with her focus on the richness of the arabian - moorish art and architecture.

Isabelle also has a special regard for a Morocco heading towards the future, but strong and proud of its past.

Isabelle writes: "All the sumptuousness and complexity of this fabulous fountain are accurately transferred on the embroidery canvas. Taking up to 1000 hours' work, Isabelle Aubry's needlepoint canvases are quite similar to the mosaïc itself, though many of the patterns are on an enlarged scale. The resulting pieces are very dramatic!

I use cotton thread "DMC 117 - mouliné spécial" together with 39 penelope canvas from Zweigart; I'm also doing some tests with moroccan silk and expect to have it specialy prepared for me so that I could use it as well as DMC cotton."
