BROWSING Tips:
The fact that you're here, obviously means that you already
know plenty about how to get around a web site! My intention
with this page, is simply to share with you, a few of the things
that I personally have found very helpful to know about.
While
a page is loading.....
It's good practice, generally speaking, to wait until a web
page is fully loaded, before you start scrolling or clicking
on 'enlarge image' or 'url links' The reason is that sometimes,
all the images for the page, don't 'load' properly. I keep an
eye on the base of my browser, to see when it says "Done"
or "Document done."
If you do have a problem with an image or two that didn't display
correctly, then simply remember to hit the 'Refresh' or 'Reload'
button at the top of your browser and all should be well the
second time.
On
being patient...!
I'd say that because of the very nature of the kind of sites
we visit, we often need to be patient whilst they 'load'. The
more graphics there are on a page, the longer it takes to fully
display on our screens. Hopefully, most times they are worth
the wait, and I must admit, the web would be a barren place
without them!......... so patience is the go!
Don't
be afraid to 'click'!
Sometimes, we are afraid to 'click' for fear of getting lost!
Well don't be!... you can always come back by hitting the 'back'
button at the top of your browser. Hopefully there is a good
'navigation system' on the site you are visiting, so there usually
isn't a problem at all.
One thing that can happen, is that when you click to go to a
page, it opens up in a 'separate' window....... these are usually
designed to be closed before you continue....... if you don't,
you will find at the end of your 'session', you have lots of
open windows to close up!
Explore
with your mouse!
The arrow/pointer turns to a hand when there's something to
do! Designers often build in several 'events' that will occur
when your 'mouse' goes over a particular area..... so it's a
great habit to get used to exploring the page with your mouse.......
it will guide you to links to other pages, or simply just surprise
you from time to time!
